It is said that in trials, we find out who it is that stands beside us... but I had lived in trials. Those who had stood there were dead or missing. It was in this paralyzing, terrifying silence that I learned who would be there. It started with an extra hand carrying in furniture, a laugh traded as stubbed toes and bruised egos were mended. It continued with frantic, late-night meals over papers and worrying if something was spelled the right way and if we had the room. It flourished in gardens with failed flowerbeds and frantic snickering as treasured pets were chased away from new shoots."I cannot tell you exactly when I turned around and found I'd created a home. About Us & Our Standards
001 The Red Lantern Society is an immersive roleplay venue focused on the history, foundation and continuing existence of the Red Lantern Bordello and the variety of denizens who dwell there; the illustrious and mysterious masters of the art of intimacy, the playful and creative staff who support them, and the stoic and severe security who guard them all - and of course, the guests and those who come to call the venue home. Founded in March of 2017, the Red Lantern has served as a growing beacon and standard amidst the community, refusing to sacrifice quality and remaining comfortable in our niche of offering our guests companionship and intimacy as it pertains to the development of their characters and staff alike. 002 We remain relatively unique in our theme by keeping our standards high. We feature no buy-in VIP system, instead promoting our VIPs by virtue of their activity and support of our venue by attendance to events and interaction with our staff as writing partners and friendly faces. Our formal hiring fees are set by the house and are affordable and per-scene, making certain that the only thing separating your choice from what company you keep is whether or not the one you enjoy their character and company, and the house takes absolutely nothing from it's workers, permitting and even encouraging tipping if you do so enjoy the company you keep. 003 The Red Lantern Society features distinct recruitment periods of about 2 - 3 months, twice per year; our application process continues to serve us well in making certain that those characters who make it to trial status - and eventually full members - are those played by writers who understand the assignment and are matched to us by their love of the genre that we write in and understand that sensuality, kink and character development can co-exist. We do not accept those that we feel are seeking another source of shallow, 'easy' income with little interaction otherwise, nor do we entertain the applications of those who we feel would abuse the genre for their personal satisfaction - to be clear, our venue and writers do cater to those seeking erotic companionship, but it is a small part of our overall focus. 004 The Red Lantern Bordello serves as the hinge point for the various tales that one may find within it's walls, serving as the foundation for which all the other building blocks have been set upon. Initially founded in-character as a place of safety by the Madame for those like her who work in what is considered a dangerous profession, the Lantern has become a home not just for sex workers, but also for others who have found their way to the business in need of work or even seeking a place to hide. Within the walls, secrets stir and friendships are forged while old hatreds boil on the horizon. Every character has a story to tell... some more unexpected than others.
001 Our space is for adults and adults only. We have no desire to moderate ourselves for children and require all of our members to be over the age of twenty-one OOC, while 18 is the permitted age for characters. No child characters, not even the NPC children of our characters, are permitted to enter the venue. Underage members of the Discord are banned upon discovery, as are those who invite them into the community. If possible, they are blacklisted from the venue in-game as well, and reported as necessary to other establishments for the protection of all. 002 Our community does welcome Lalafellin characters and the people who play them, allowing those characters that choose both the opportunity to seek employ within the Lantern's walls itself as well as through seeking companionship for an evening if they so wish. While we do understand and acknowledge the discomfort that some may have in regards to this ruling, it is our personal belief that it is more important to lead by example in our community by reinforcing the standard that what others engage in behind closed doors is not the business of those who are not involved. Lalafellin applicants and our guests should be aware that while the Lantern is an open venue, our companions are still allowed their comforts - not all companions accept Lalafellin clientele privately. 003 Both in-character and out-of-character, we are an LGBTQIA+ friendly and accepting space, and a good number of our community are voices in these spaces. We expect all members and guests to respect that we are a zero tolerance space on homophobia, bigotry, racism and outright cruelty, and we are firm on removing problems that choose to attempt to follow the letter of the law while negating the spirit of it. We are a venue that operates on the values of consent, and do not consent to being treated poorly nor condoning poor treatment by permitting it to happen in our spaces. 004 While The Red Lantern Society is an adult space and many events are catered to more adult clientele, we are not and never will be a venue that deals only with NSFW elements. We are active members of the community as a whole and our members can be found at events all over the datacenters and we enjoy assisting venues with staff that may only serve in a SFW context. We encourage and actively support our members and guests engaging with venues of all sorts; many of our members are participants in the Grindstone, Blitzball, the Chocobo Racing League and others. We are proudly partnered with affiliates who service the community in SFW ways and prospective members are expected to understand that if they are only applying with the intent to keep all play NSFW, they will not thrive with us - it is our theme, but not our focus.
004 We require all members of the Free Company to be in Discord for their tenure with us, no matter if they are a member physically in-game or as a contracted employee. We do permit freelance workers from any datacenter that can access Crystal and Balmung, and never require that a prospective member transfer to our server to participate in our events or community. Discord, however, remains a requirement as it is how we choose to maintain our social networking with other venues, with our community that we have built, and how we communicate necessary changes and updates speedily. Unless communicated to a officer prior to leaving, leaving the Discord will result in immediate removal from the Free Company. 005 Outside of very specific 'closed' events usually for VIPs, our events have a strict requirement of no explicit sexual activity in the main areas of the house. Members who join are expected to understand that conversations in /tell during our public events (i.e, those whispered into one another's ears for more than a sentence or two) are not permitted, as we believe that it is not exactly the best when guests arrive to a silent venue. We maintain a strict clothing policy, as well - lingerie is permitted in the main areas, but nudity and sexual contact is not permitted in the main spaces and may only be conducted in the back rooms. 006 It should be said that while our core community is focused on the Red Lantern Bordello and the stories which are woven by the members there, we are an exceptionally active and chatty community within the Discord and we keep the door open for those who want to join us even if their only activity is just joining us for side games or idle chatter. Our community is a space for like minds, and we have members with lives in a variety of different fields of study, we have artists and professional writers, we have a wealth of members with passions in other games, and our pet parents are proud to share pictures of fluffy gremlins of all sorts. The majority of our server and VC is open for all members of the Discord to participate in! 007 Our venue and community runs heavily on the codes and concepts of respect, communication and our favorite - consent. It is important that every member of the community know and understand that the role we play in our pretend writing is not the same roles we play in our everyday life, and absolutely no member will ever be stripped of their right to decline an interaction with a guest, intimate or not. Additionally, we value privacy and expect our members and guests to keep interactions in private between themselves, and not to use programs or enhancements that are deemed to be malicious in a way that violates this. We cannot stop you from using them, but understand you will be banned if we find out.

We open hiring twice per year, once in the Spring and once in Fall.

Keep the below in mind while considering your application.
You must be at least 21 to join. We lifted our age requirement from 18 to 21 in 2021 to align more with our desire to cater to a more mature demographic. We do not ask for any other verification outside of confirmation of your age on our application, but do warn that lying will result in removal and potentially a ban.
Dual roles are required. We do not have members who only fill one role within the Free Company. Every member is required to hold at least one secondary role. This is a standard that has been implemented to help ease moments of lull, and also allow others to swap into other roles with ease and let others experience other roles when we are in need, or just when an urge has struck. Your primary role will always be respected and will be what you are slotted in when events are running. Our dual-role system allows our members to take breaks, to experience new roles and to prevent burnout that encourages absence or retcons.
We are an intimate venue. This means that you will be surrounded by people flirting with one another, sometimes even at you, and some racy language. While we do all we can to make sure that comfort and consent are upheld, we cannot protect you if you do not speak up when uncomfortable. However, we find it important to make it clear that if you are uncomfortable with intimacy, saucy jokes and sometimes dark humor? This is not a home for you. Please do not join with the mentality that the community will walk on eggshells around you - we are clear what we are here for and what we do.
Communication is paramount. While we are firm that respect and consent are also core requirements for existing in our community, we really must push that communication is important in a way that many do not understand. We expect you, as an adult, to be able and willing to speak up when situations change, when comforts are infringed on, and when you see something that you feel should be immediately reported. If you are absent during your trial period and do not communicate this before or during, we will not permit a longer trial period. If you are never around for our events, never interacting in the Discord, never really participating when you have the opportunity to do so, you will be removed when we purge our rosters.
We do not permit Voidsent characters. This is as much an IC choice as an OOC choice. The way voidsent are described in-canon makes it difficult to incorporate characters with those traits in a venue that caters to normal, everyday folks with no way to defend themselves. Voidsent seek and consume aether, it is an all-encompassing hunger. It goes against the very core reason why the Lantern was even founded IC'ly to allow what is effectively a threat into a haven. We do not forbid those who consider their Reaper class to be IC, but we do have a conversation OOC about it.
We permit Lalafell as clients and guests. While you will never be forced to interact intimately with anyone who you are not comfortable with, we want to make it abundantly clear that you are required to treat everyone with respect and compassion when they walk through our doors. Not everyone who comes to our venue is searching for an intimate time and we find it disrespectful to assume this. You do not have to serve everyone intimately, you do have to be prepared to speak to every guest in a non-intimate way, even if they are not your preference.
We are not a 'part-time' or 'fast food' venue. Many of our members do work at other venues, or even work at the Lantern in secret as part of their canon. We do not have issue with this. We do have issue with our community, venue and guests only being interacted with when you are seeking ERP or extra coin. If the only time we see you is during our events that have gil as a part of the transaction and your only commentary in the communication channels is sexual or objectifying other members and characters, you will not be likely to pass through the hiring process. We take our motto seriously, and our niche is specific to people for whom intimacy is part of their character's story and growth.
Our roles & their responsibilities.
Companions

The most obvious role in a brothel, our companions are made up of both non-sexual companions and intimate companions, and both are welcome and respected. During events, both types are tasked with seeing to guests on the most simple of levels; sitting with them, engaging with chatter and questions, and answering any that the guests might have. Companions are expected to work together to make certain a guest has the best experience possible - we do not permit companions to cherry-pick non-intimate encounters, you should be prepared to keep company with folks who aren't your type, because everyone deserves to be interacted with.
Security

While few in number, the security team are no less important. Responsible for the protection of venue and staff alike, security are the watchful eyes that work in tandem with house staff to keep guests on task when entering, taking any weapons and offering a first impression for new guests to the Lantern on what we expect. This is an exceedingly limited role as we do not need many, and is often picked as a secondary.
House Staff

The collective name for anyone who is not security or a companion, the name is still something of a misnomer. House Staff are considered to be supportive role amongst the Lantern, encompassing roles such as craftsmen, bartenders, engineers, medical staff and more. We have no need of further engineers and medical staff, but it should be noted that the Madame is happy to take in any who need a place to rest and may make the Lantern a self-sustaining business.
Filling out the application!
Make sure you read the application. We use the application to make certain that all parties are on the same page and our standard of quality is kept. To be transparent, it is far, far more likely that you will be declined because you did not do as the question asked than because you spelled a few things wrong. We expect all of our members to be able to follow instructions, so if your first act on the application is to not, then you are not likely to be accepted.
Take your time. While our application is not long, it can be considered involved and may ask a few questions that have you think for a bit. We've found that people who rush the application tend to miss the point of those questions; we want you to think on things as you fill out the application - which features questions aimed at you, too!
Join the Discord. We will not message you privately to bring you into the Discord. Please make sure you have joined the Discord after you finish the application, as Discord is required for all members. If you leave the Discord during your application process or trial, then we will consider your application to be revoked.
Participate! We actively watch applicants in the Discord, especially when it comes to applicants who are vying for a truly limited role (like security!) and we have to choose the better fit. We will almost always choose the one that is active and engaging in the community with us over the one that remains silent. We understand nerves, but we expect applicants to be comfortable - or get there, quickly.
Inactivity is a failure. If you are accepted into a trial position, we expect you to participate in our events and in roleplay. While we are exceptionally lenient with attendance as we are all adults and understand conflicting schedules, we are also very up front with our schedules and expect members to make an effort. It is on you to communicate difficulties attending events or other items that may prevent you from completing your trial.
You have three weeks. Our trial period encompasses three weeks. There is no skipping this. This time gives you enough to attend a few events to see how we work - and work them, as well. While we had initially used a tiered system of IC and OOC qualifiers, the truth is that we feel that if you don't have any idea how we work at the end of three weeks, either you were not present enough to do events, you did not ask questions during the trial period that would have got you the answers (and prospects have an entire section that is just them and the officers, there's no excuse), or you simply were not a good fit.
You can always try again. If the timing is not right for you this time, you can always try again during our next open. We hope that we'll see you in the Discord in the meantime!
